This week has seen us revert back to form, typical of Liverpool¡¯s previous seasons. The loss at Chelsea was disappointing and saw our faint hopes of catching them become more distant. Robben¡¯s acting to get Reina sent off left a bitter taste and, will do nothing to improve the growing rivalry between the two clubs. It was a disappointing reaction from Robben, though some would say not a surprising one. Liverpool¡¯s decision not to appeal against Reina¡¯s sending off meant a return to the first team for Dudek. Unfortunately it was another game to forget for Liverpool. Dudek¡¯s first start since Istanbul saw him give away a penalty, although the decision has sparked more controversy. Dudek was furious after Bent immediately admitted to diving, only to keep quiet once the penalty was awarded. Charlton¡¯s second goal makes the penalty less significant, and the poor performance of the Liverpool players should not be hidden behind that decision. The recent defeats have led to a panicked reaction from some fans and worries that the good form we have shown this season is changing back to mediocrity. However, this week should really be seen as a blip in Liverpool¡¯s steady progress. Times are very much changing for the better, and Benitez has shown that he is capable of giving the team some much-needed consistency. With some tough games including the likes of Arsenal and Man United coming up, Liverpool have another chance to show they can compete against the best and go on to become consistent challengers.
