Championship Betting Review - 6 March 2006
By David Walker        [Hits: 25066]

Reading moved to within four wins of promotion after demolishing Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor. The Royals, 4/5 on the day, needed just 10 minutes for Bobby Convey to open the scoring, before second half goals from Ibrahim Sonko and Dave Kitson sealed an emphatic win. Steve Coppell¡¯s side are now unbackable to win the Championship outright at a massive 1/350.

Second placed Sheffield United saw their chances of automatic promotion dented as they dropped two points against bottom-of-the-table Crewe. The Blades were huge 3/10 to win at Bramall Lane but were held to a goalless draw by Dario Gradi¡¯s relegation-threatened side.

In the battle between two play-off hopefuls, Leeds beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park to move above Watford into third and close the gap on Neil Warnock¡¯s Sheffield United. The 11/5 away side found themselves 2-0 up through Robbie Blake and Rob Hulse before Jobi McAnuff gave the Eagles hope in injury time.

Hot favourites Watford needed a last minute equaliser to spare their blushed against Derby. The Rams took a shock lead after 19 minutes through on loan Kevin Lisbie but Watford hit back through Marlon King, now 6/5 favourite to finish the season as the division¡¯s top goalscorer. Giles Barnes looked set to seal an unlikely 5/1 away win four minutes from time until Al Bangura rescued the Hornets at the death.

Cardiff took advantage of Preston¡¯s called off fixture and drew level with them on points following a 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday. The 2/3 Bluebirds scored the winner through Camerone Jerome, his eighteenth of the season.

Millwall edged closer to safety with a priceless win over London rivals Luton. Ben May gave the Lions the lead after 33 minutes but Town levelled two minutes after the break through Chris Coyne. Marvin Robinson came off the bench to net an injury time winner for the 8/5 strugglers.

Fellow strugglers Brighton were not so fortunate, slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Plymouth. Lillian Nalis netted the winner for the 8/11 Pilgrims leaving Brighton five points adrift from safety.
