The Friendly Home Bar By Parvati Markus

Looking to entertain your guests with something stirred orshaken? No, not another manic video game. We're talking aboutsitting on bar stools, elbows propped on the bar, sipping anapple martini, or a tall glass of beer, or a salt-rimmedmargarita as you talk with your friends. Chips and guacamoleright at hand. Gazing out over the city lights at night, ortaking a break from the big poker game. There's nothing like barfurniture to bring cheers to your home!

With the sleek contemporary look of metal and glass to thecomfort and familiarity of beautiful woods, a bar can fit intoyour game room, rec room, living room, dining room, den, hometheater, family room -- there's a size and style of bar or pubtable to fit any space in your home. Remember, when you measurethe area where you want to place the bar, allow enough space toenter the bar from one side. Also take into consideration ifyou're going to have a small refrigerator in the bar area. Foran L-shaped bar, add enough room for barstools along the shortside (return) of the bar.

Speaking of barstools, there are many options, from contemporarymetal stools to traditional wooden stools and spectator chairs. What height stools do you need? If you're going to use thestools at a kitchen counter, they come in either 24" or 26"heights for countertops that are 36-39" tall. Stools designedfor bar counters are usually 30" for bars that are 40-50" inheight. The 34" height is mostly for spectator chairs in pooland game rooms. Leave 22-25" of width for each bar stool. Therest is your choice: with a back or not, swivel seat orstationary, cloth, wood, or metal seat and back.

Think about adding a brass or chrome foot rest, a back barmirror, shelving for glasses, or an in-wall bar and winecabinet. The choice of drinks is on the housePlease find theoriginal article and more information about this subject athttp://www.homeandliving.com/DesignAdvice.aspx?Category=FriendlyHomeBar
